Matt 17:26-27  Jesus said to him. 27 “But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
Jesus’ disciples were challenged about them paying the temple tax. Instead of getting into a big argument or discussion, Jesus just does the natural thing and takes some money out of his pocket and pays the tax….(NOT!!!) He demonstrates once again that He indeed has all authority in heaven and earth. He miraculously tells Peter to catch a fish, and you will find  the exact amount for the taxes. What does this have to do with us on the day we pay our taxes? Everything….Jesus says if we seek his kingdom and his righteousness all things will be added unto us (Mt 6:33). In other words if we are abiding in Him and He in us, things will work out perfectly. This is why studying God’s Word and putting it into practice is so important. We learn that Jesus is indeed there for us every moment of our lives. Not just concerning our salvation which he guarantees, but our day to day living also, which indeed includes our taxes. When it comes to April and our taxes are due, the way I see it, we can trust and mature in our relationship with Jesus. Or we can grab a fishing rod, head out to a lake and hope we get lucky!
